Lee Broom’s Eclipse Collection Wins EDIDA 2019 Award
The annual Elle Deco International Design Awards (EDIDA) ceremony is a prestigious event that recognizes excellence in the field – identifying and celebrating work that pushes boundaries, inspires others, and showcases originality. Launched in 2003, the awards have been organized by all 25 of Elle Deco’s editors-in-chief working across an international network, each placing their votes to highlight the achievements of the world’s top designers in 13 different design categories.
A few weeks ago at the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan, this year’s recipients were announced.
Lee Broom – the enfant prodige of the British design scene – has conquered the world of millennials. It’s safe to say that his time spent at drama school, his passion for fashion, and his friendship with Vivienne Westwood have made him into a creative mind with a characteristic, eclectic soul that he cultivated at Central Saint Martins, the school where he studied.
A tribute to the celestial vault and the starry universe provide the inspiration for the work of the English product and interior designer who won the EDIDA for the tableware category last year.
The Eclipse design revolves around the theme of the intersection of two chrome-covered steel and opalescent glass discs. Linked as if in a chain, the two elements of pure geometric form playfully interact with the expressive strength of the reflective surfaces: by mirroring one another, they present all the magic of a bright jewel.
This year’s win marks Lee Broom second consecutive Elle Deco International Design Award. His first award came in 2018 for best Tableware Design.
Congratulations to Lee Broom for this amazing–and well-deserved–accomplishment!
We had the pleasure of hosting Lee Broom in our Toronto showroom last year, for a conversation with Azure magazine then Editor-in-Chief Catherine Osborne. The event marked the launch of Lee Broom’s latest lighting collection, OBSERVATORY, including the award-winning Eclipse collection. Read about that event here.
